LAKESHORE MODEL YACHT REGATTA

DEC 8, 2002
We would like to thank everyone who joined the 1st Lakeshore Model Yacht Regatta held in Mexico Pampanga, sponsored by Lakeshore Development Corp together with Dr. Tony Lazatin.  There were souvenir shirts for all the Participants as well as free lunch and merienda.  We were also joined by Kite fliers and a couple of RC Airplane acrobats who wowed the audience with their Aerobatic manouvers.

The event's Race Director was none other than John-john Torres who with his very colorful continuing commentary during races help make the racing very interesting and fun, even for the spectators. Blessed with a steady blowing Southeasterly wind the opening race was for the OPEN class division, where all kinds of boats competed in a boat to boat race regardless of size and sail area.  A well noticed participant was one of our sailing counterparts from Singapore, Andre, who flew in specially to join the event and sail his International One Meter (IOM) boat. Another well noticed participant is the lone skipper of a Mini Soling 30" boat Edmund, who is the builder of the (full sized) Streaker Racing Dinghy in the country AICA which is owned by his friend was the lone small boat competing in the Open class.

After a short lunch break the Open class resumed racing, then the 36/600 class and the Mini Soling went out in a combined race, they raced together but was ranked individually according to their classes. Andre was even able to borrow a Mini soling to also join that class (we wanted to see how we did sailing one design without the advantage of a high performance IOM boat).

After the Combined class races, the Novice event was held, anyone who had no prior sailing experience was invited to join, each of them were lent a boat from the one design class and were given 5 minutes to learn how to sail with the boat owner as the instructor.  After that, all the boats were lined up on the launching area held by the boat owners, and when the start was called out the boats were released with a "Lemans style start".  All the Novice participants really felt the adrenalin rush of racing sailboats, even with a more simplified course.
