International One Meter

The IOM has finally arrived! After a year of planning, the PRSC has finally started in it's quest to promote the International One Meter class (IOM) in the country.  The IOM class promises to offer the PRSC not only higher performance level racing, it will also give us the opportunity to compete internationally or to invite international participants to our regattas.

How to get Started with IOM boats?
If you are interested in procuring an IOM class boat, there are a lot of ways for you to get going.

Purchase Internationally:
The IOM is the biggest Model Yacht Class in the world, with estimated 15,000 boats built. There are quite a lot of RC boat builders that offer IOM kits for sale. As the IOM class allows for some hull development, there are many hull designs out there to choose from, with very colorful names, like TS2, Drumbeat, Disco, V3, Eureka, Ice, Ikon and Highlander to name a few. Most builders have their own website, visit the IOM links page to visit the individual websites.  Though I must warn you that commercially built IOMs are expensive. Cost around US$600 to 1000. You may also try to search for second hand IOMs for sale.

Purchase Locally:
With the help of a hand full of Hobbyists who are dedicated in promoting the IOM class in the country, the first ever Locally made IOM is already in the final stage of development.  Already 4 hulls has been completed and the only thing left is the development of the rig and fittings.  The IOM is dubbed TABO click on the link for more details about the TABO.

Build your own:
If you are a modeler and you want to build your own boat, there are some boat builders that offer kits, from semi kits to full kits. There are kits for fiberglassed hulls while others offer wood planked kits or plans. If you have the experience or patience, your finished hull will still be competitive against mass produced boats in certain conditions, thus is the beauty of the IOM class. This is achieved by allowing all the IOM boats to use only a specific type of rig and sail area. Links on plans and kits will be available in our links page as well.  You may also opt to make your own original design hull by carving wood or foam and then using it as a plug for a mold. The Local IOM builders will probably be willing to offer parts to a home builder, parts that might be difficult to make yourself, like keel fin, rudder and keel bulbs.
