Areas of Ministry
OMF International has
been sponsoring work in Community Development among the Urban Poor for several
years. The first OMF community development work among the poor began in 1989
in the depressed area of Batasan, Quezon City. Community development here
included the initiation of a livelihood program, a health program, a feeding
program for malnourished children, and the drilling of a well as a community
service. In 1993 the expatriate who had initiated these programs withdrew from
the area and the community development continued with all of these programs
being run by the local Filipinos. Other community development programs have been
initiated by OMF expatriates in other depressed areas of Quezon City including,
Philcoa, Freedom Park, Sitio Mabilog and Manggahan. The Canadian missionary
director of this Jordan Community Development Project in Welfareville,
Mandaluyong City has worked with the poor in Manila since 1991, and this present
model for community development has achieved significant impact in a slum area
of Manila during this past year.
After six years, because of the call of Church Planting
Movement the Jordan Project was re named to Bukang Liwayway. At Present
Bukang Liwayway is administering projects to Welfareville Mandaluyong
City, Balic Balic , Sampaloc Manila City, Calero Calapan Mindoro, Potrero
